Hebern cipher machine challenge

Crypto Homepage --> Cipher Machines Challenge

The Hebern machine is the first cipher device to introduce an electrical circuitry and rotors. Unfortunately, its inventor, Edward Hebern, would never be rewarded to this in his lifetime.

The navy in 1924 was ready to buy it and to use it to cipher the most secret messages. The navy challenged W.F. Friedman to decipher ten crytograms ciphered by the Hebern machine. Friedman succeed to decipher the cryptograms and Navy disinterested in the purchase of the machine.

The Hebern system is not very secure because the fast rotor advances regularly (one step every letter ciphered or deciphered).
