RED: 7th Problem

Munitions Buildings, Washington D.C.

26 November 1938

                    Dear Bob and Albert,

My dear students. Your objective is to find the
wiring for the half-rotors of the Red machine and
then decipher the message. With Kully, we
performed this feat without knowing how the
machine worked. You have this advantage over us.

I remind you of a few things:

- At the time, the machine still used the vowel and
consonant separation (this helped us a lot).

- The text is in English and the words are separated
by the letter Z. It dates from August 15, 1937.

I give you several Cribs:
Z prisoners Z
Z international Z
Z incident Z
Z Beijing Z
Z Emperor Z showa Z

Z comma Z
Z Marco Z Polo Z bridge Z

Z territories Z
Z civilians Z

Good luck!

Frank Rowlett
