In this page, I have met the most important links about the M-209 and the links that have no place in the other sections of this site.

References

  • Wikipedia: M-209 - It is the most natural start page.
  • Cryptomuseum: Home Page
This is one of the most complete site about cipher machines. There are numerous pages about Hagelin's cipher machines. Obviously, there is one about M-209. This page talks about models, accessories, bag, M-210, Markings, History and Cryptanalysis. Another page talks about the Hagelin story
  • Jerry Proc VE3FAB: Crypto Machines
This is another an important site about cipher machines. The M-209 page shows us numerous pictures. Some show shipping box. The author gives a trick to replace an old ink roller.
  • Dirk Rijmenants'Cipher Machines and Cryptology: Home Page
Dirk hosts an important site about cipher machines and he created numerous beautiful simulators. Among them, his M-209 Simulator He hosts too a page about the History of the Hagelin Cipher Machines.
  • Mark's Tech Journal - Mark J. Blair's Blog of Technical Stuff - Home Page Mark Blair is fond of Radios, Computers and Cipher machines. Here some pages about M-209:

  • TICOM - DF-120: "Report on the solution of messages in depth of the American cipher device M-209". It is the english translation of a German text written by German cryptanalysts during the WWII. Among other things, it contains a genuine M-209 message (cryptogram and plain text).

  • Dennis Ritchie 2000-05, Dabbling in the Cryptographic World --A Story (Official Link) (another link) This document is bizarre. It tells how the NSA prevented Ritchie from publishing an article about a crypto-only type of attack. The NSA probably wanted to have the exclusive use of this method. The NSA could then use it against the numerous countries using Hagelin cipher machine serie C (among them the notorious M-209).
